| Milestone day So today I got my disabled parking placard and my first Canada Pension Plan Disability cheque. Two small things that seem like huge steps for me so to celebrate I drove right to the bank to deposit the money and tried to park in the disabled parking spot but it was occupied by a sporty car that I might have been able to fall into but would have had to have a lot of help getting out of. I was going to complain but the driver was even better looking than her car and I completely forgot what I was going to say. I am a sucker for a pretty face |

Peter-
I find myself checking to see if the car has a handicap placard when all the spaces are taken! LOL Like I can do anything about it. (although, I did leave a note on the windshield once!)
But, unlike Barry (and I suspect Glen), if the car's owner is approaching, I'm looking to see "how handicapped" they really are! I know, that is really bad on my part. Not all disabilities are visible. But, I'm looking & thinking "...a cane? A wheelchair trumps a cane!" LOL Sick, I know, given that fact that not long ago Jim was (& still is) using a cane! I like to think it is just a little dark humor, and not that I'm losing it already! LOL
Barry-
I don't know whether to say congratulations or sorry!?! You know what I mean.

Oh , I check too. I too will stick with the dark humor excuse
I will park in Smurf parking and wait while Wanda runs the errand. I am waiting for some smartass to come and ask why I am parked there. Of course , things like that will not happen if you have a nasty answer ready . *sigh*

I've only been reading this forum for a month, and posting for a week, but I've decided that Barry is hilarious. Great sense of humour (Canadian spelling, not a spelling error ).
Like many people on these boards, you are an inspiration Barry. |

Be careful what you look for. My sister wears a brace under her jeans! She has post polio syndrom. Can walk, but not too far. Gets tired easily. Love the distraction Barry! What color were her eyes? |

Peter, the car had no placard but she was wearing a very clear unwritten sign that said "I'm hot and I know it"
Glen, I have quite a few nasty comments in reserve but because I am not a touch typist I have to look at the keys and my eyes were busy somewhere else Gotta program some hot ( ) keys for those occasions!
Mare, I'm only using my cane so far but I might have to put my walker in the car in case I see you looking. Thanks for the congrats or whatever, it is appreciated.
nishant, we just have get sporty in other ways...
rhythman, just my twisted personality coming out. Thanks.
Colleen, Oh believe me I DO look carefully, especially for things hidden under a pair of jeans. Her eyes? Ummmm........

Congratulations, Barry. When I got my handicapped sticker, I spent hours driving around looking for empty handicapped spots, passing up perfectly good places near doors.
That's one of the few perks for ALS!

Congratulations. It is great to have both of those things behind you. And it is great to have the extra money!

If you have worked, paid into it and are no longer able to work because of something like ALS, then you can apply and get CPP Disability. Your spouse can still be working, this only applies to the one with ALS.

Joel or Barry, do you know who qualifies for the CPP disability allowance and whether you have to be under 60? This is the first time I've heard of it. Maybe I can stop selling pencils on the street.
