Many prayers being sent you rway. I have to agree with Joel...I wish more people would be open to living with a trach...Mom used to be so pale and would constantly say how tired she was. Now she says she is so happy she has the trach. I know everyone has to do what is right for them. God Bless you and your family.

Dana
I am really sorry to hear about your Dad. I hope he is getting stronger and he is back home soon. I am sending all positive energy and deep breathing his way. Please take care of yourself also, don't get worn out. Your Dad is going to need you to bet on his horses while he is getting better. Give your Dad a hug for me and let him know I am thinking of him and praying for him.
Dana

Dana.. glad your dad is doing better! I have to admit, your description of going "all Mafia daughter wild" cracked me up!! My husband's primary care doctor is finally developing a healthy fear of me.. might have had something to do with the letter to Kaiser member services, and I may have mentioned the phrase "file a grievance." I am learning quickly that having the respect of the medical community makes things run much smoother. Glad you didn't have to bring in the heavy guns this time!!

Hi Dana, I hope your Dad is getting stronger with each day? My heart hurts for you as it does for my children and husband every time an obstical comes our way... I said at first when i was dx that I would never do anything except the peg. After this forum and the wonderful patients and their families tell their stories[personal] stories to all of us. I am sofening about everything and say ,{ lets just take it one day at a time} Put it in Gods hands and try and go with the flow.... Big Hugs, to you and your family.. Linda

Thanks again for the well wishes. Dad had a really bad day yesterday and it is taking everything he has to fight this pneumonia. Today was a little better. Our goal is to get him strong enough to be discharged home by the weekend. He will likely have Hospice. Right now we are taking it a day at a time. ALS sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On a lighter note, I have to share a positive. Dad's nurse today was great. She had Dad yesterday and learned he is a huge Univ of Tenn fan. Well she is a Univ of KY fan and there is a history of school rivalry. So last night Dad asked for a TN orange dry erase marker so he could aggravate her today. So I am running around at midnight trying to find an orange dry erase marker - thank you Walmart. Guess what the nurse brought in? A UK blue marker. This was not planned and was hilarious. She would write on his board each time she would come in and he would have us erase it and write in orange. She was definitely Dad's trash talkin' match. She and her marker were worth a million bucks.
Thanks for listening.
Dana

That is such a cute story. I loved that. I am hoping he continues to fight, and know that we are all pulling for him, and looking out for you. I love to hear stories of people that make a difference.

What a great nurse!
Dana, please tell your dad that we are all pulling for him. I am thinking of you and your family and I hope that your dad is home by the weekend. ALS really really SUCKS!!!!!! I am so sorry that you are going through this but I also admire you so much for staying positive and fighting right alongside your dad. You are a great daughter and he is lucky to have you.

What a great nurse...I'm sure she has 100 other things to do, but to take the time and thought to get him going. Just what he needed, I suspect! It sure is a joy to see a smile and a wink in the midst of such agony. Hang in there, Dana. I know it's hard. xoPam
