My daughter in law just had our 3rd grandchild and we paid a commercial company to collect and store the stem cells from the cord blood. My son now has a certificate saying that almost 3 million stem cells have been collected and stored. This service is not generally available in the Uk and has to be commercially paid for. I guess that is also the same in the US....WHAT A WICKED WASTE....all those umbilical cords just incinerated...when the stem cells could be used for research and treatments for so many diseases. Why cant we get this valuable resource used to better effect.
