Just a quick question...do you typically get the results of the EMG during/immediately after the test?

My first EMG was on an older machine in a private doctor's office. He had to send the information to be read, and I got the results a couple weeks later.

My second EMG was at a university clinic, and I got the results instantly.

I usually got mine same day.

AL.

EMG is usually done by the doctor himself, and he knows the results right away, there is no need for postprocessing. But he sometimes tells the patient only after an official report is written, which may take a couple of weeks.

Also some equipment makes noise when there is electrical activity, so you can hear your own results right away. If you don't hear much when the needle is in and the musle is relaxed, that would be a good sign.

In the UK I went to a specialist for my emg...so he would not tell me anything straight away, he had to write a report and send it back to my neuro. You are right though, there was a hell of a lot of noise the whole time on my test, so I knew it was not good, although the neuro said I could not tell from that...I know what I heard though and the results proved to be bad......

Thanks everyone. You are all very helpful.

I got my results immediately the doctor had done the tests.... did not hurt too much by the way. Then he had to send it to the neuro with my other tests and I am waiting now for an appointment with the neuro to get the diagnosis.
