Reclining in the chair will add a lot of length to the chair and make turns from a typical hallway nearly impossible. But I am not sure why you would need to be continually reclined in your wheelchair in the future. Some small degree of tilt and/or recline should be comfortable with a proper headrest to keep your head up and lateral trunk supports to keep you centered. The human body breathes best when upright so I don't know why breathing would be worse sitting up. Anyway, unless you hang out in the hallway a lot, ("Hall Party at Doglady's tonight! BYOB!) you should be able to tolerate sitting up for the time it takes to move to the other rooms.
