Vincent or anyone;

The whole boat load of other stuff that needs to be ruled out before diagnosis of ALS has been a constant theme even with my wife's two neurologists. My question: do you know of an ALS diagnosis that was reversed after finding something from the boat load that was missed on the original diagnosis.

Supposedly 10 percent of initial ALS diagnoses prove to be wrong. I think most of them get reversed relatively quickly when the person sees neuromuscular and or has all the tests completed.

I have heard anecdotes of late change of diagnosis. One was someone who ended up having MMN. This is a third hand report

There was someone on this board whose husband had a bulbar diagnosis that eventually was found to be a cancer

We advise a second neuromuscular opinion in part because of this. A second pair of eyes and a second brain looking at the situation help avoid missing something. Most ALS doctors are very thorough in their rule outs
