TENS/EMS in treating ALS

please, can anybody share experiences using TENS/EMS devices in stimulating muscles?
also, i asked 2 doctors about using sauna. one says of course, but use cold water after 10 minutes of sauna, other one said: not at all!!! you will lose muscles!
any expert who tried this?
