This is my first post so I hope I post in the right thread. My mom has ALS diagnosed 1 1/2 ago she is 76 years old and was running a family business before ALS. She is progressing quickly, she has been in a nursing home since May. She has a peg, a trilogy, left side does not move, a little movement in right hand, neck control gone.

My question is over the last week, her eye lids have closed. Yesterday, when I went to see her, she could not open her eyes. I told her to squeeze my hand if she was trying but they won't open. She squeezed by hand.

Is this a symptom from ALS, has she lost control of the muscles of her eye lids...

I am going to the home this morning and we are calling her ALS doctor but I wanted to ask the forum.

I pray for all families that have been affected by this disease.

Yesterday, my mom asked me if she is dying..

I appreciate any feedback you have.

Hi. So very sorry.
Yes it can happen but it is rare I think. How horrible for her.

It can happen. I have the opposite problem keeping my eyes closed when I sleep. My neurologist noticed my eye lids and asked me if I was having troubles.

JNELSON, let us know how it goes.

I'm so sorry. I have nothing to offer except a warm hug and my prayers.
