I wish to God it was catching. If it was there would be a cure by now and I wouldn't have to die

I hope you come back because yours is a natural question to ask given your newness to the disease and the extreme circumstances.

Unless those relatives were close cousins with a familial ALS (less than 5%of all cases)
Someone was likely misdiagnosed. Sorry don't mean to be rude but it's simply not contagious.

the only reason to post such a concern is to share it with people who may have similar cases, yes maybe they are exposed to the same environment it is possible, but I really find it odd that both had the same disease I don't find it that common.

people who find this very funny please feel free to make jokes, this is my last concern.

sorry if some of you understood my post as something else.

ALS is not contagious.

Can there be a coincidence where two closely related people get ALS?
I think yes.
Of the, probably, half million people who have had ALS since the disease was discovered, I think it's fair to think that there will be plenty of interesting coincidences.

ALS is not contagious.
they are not relatives, I guess that makes sharing the same environment , habits they only common thing. but again I still find it very strange coincident

this is not funny, I guess you forgot how does it feel like to know someone with this disease. I was really sincere with my concern.

leowl, I am sorry if our responses hurt you, but it is dangerous to post that ALS is contageous as some people believe everything they see on the internet and this disease is most definately not contageous. BTW, affected remembers all too clearly what it is like to know someone with ALS as her husband had it and FTD. HIs was very aggressive and she lived the worst kind of nightmare, caring for him till the end.

Thank you for coming back. There are people who post things just to get us stirred up, and we were concerned that you were one of them. I feel for your friend--I cannot imagine both the husband and wife experiencing this. I hope you are able to offer him support.

the only reason behind my post is to see if others have experienced similar cases. I just found it a bit strange and thought of sharing it. I only managed to talk with him its really hard I ran out of words didn't know what to say. I am taking care of my Dad her in Houston he was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer incurable and they are only trying to extend his life ,we are searching for possible trails. I spend most of my time in "colon talk forum" under the same nick ( ieowi ) . google it and you would see my posts.
believe me I do know how does it feel, and I don't think such forums are places to make fun of anyone.

Ieowi. No one was making fun of you per se, but being a regular on another sad forum, you would know that many people here are dying, many caregivers of dying people and many caregivers of people who sadly have died.
We all need a bit of joy, laughter and nonsense.
I thank you for your posting and brightening the day of many people.
Please see this as we do, you cheered us.
Prayers for you and your family.
Janelle

ieowi,
Sorry to hear about your dad. If you're at MD Anderson, he's in good hands. Do consult with the palliative service there when the time comes, as they will help him achieve what we seek here for our PALS -- a comparatively peaceful path through life.

Best,
Laurie
