Default Controlling Drooling

My sister suffers from Bulbar ALS. One of her biggest challenges is dealing with all the drooling and mucous.......she coughs alot & has trouble breathing through the gunk. Has anyone successfully dealt with this issue? Thank You.

You will find many ideas in past threads about the mucous. Everything from alka seltzer, pineapple juice tongue scraper, cola and many more can help cut the mucous. Haven't seen much about the drooling issue. Good luck in helping her and thanks!

Default Re: Controlling Drooling

The drooling can be controlled with drying meds such as scopalamine or robinul. Or treated with radiation. But it soundslike the bigger issue is the mucus and drying that out will make it thicker which is bad.

If it is deep she might need cough assist and/ or vest

Good luck!

One of the CALS in our support group said her PALS had Botox injections and that helped.
