upset stomach and diarhea

My sister has bulbar als. She is having diarrhea. She is on perm feeding tube. she has recently tried new food type. She can only eat very few and tiny amounts of solid foods. Does anyone have any suggestions.

I take six Boost Plus a day through the tube and no diarrhea. In fact, it tends the other way.

If this has been going on for a bit, I would contact the doctor that wrote the script for the formula she is using in the peg. It probably needs to be changed. In the meantime, if she can swallow thick liquids you could try some smoothies.

Search "real food tube formulas." There are a couple, said to be more tolerable than the mainstream brands, which are often little more than water/corn syrup/cheap dairy. Of course, any switching should be gradual. Alternative formulae are increasingly receiving insurance reimbursement -- check the Web sites.
