My darling is starting to have quite a bit of trouble moving/turning over in the bed. Looking ahead, I asked about this during our clinic appointment and was told that no insurance will pay for an alternating air mattress until/unless pressure sores are present. I know the VA has different standards, but we've been trying to use his work insurance to share at least some of the (financial) pain.

Has everyone else found this to be the case with medical coverage?

Forget the hassle with private insurance in this case. Ask the VA for a Pro-Bed.

Briefly discussed here.

If you are associated with the VA, do not wait get the ProBed. Tim has had one for a year now, and it is a God send. The VA covered it completely, and it allows me to sleep all night long except for the occasion time that he needs the bottle. Give the company a call and they will get the ball rolling. It took us about a month to get it cleared and delivered.
