the local runners that paced Josh last year when he ran 50 Miles for Steve came to me and said they wanted to run it again. They felt as long as they had a relay of runners to cover the miles they could still once again run "50 Miles for Steve". I was so touched, of course I would help them plan it. By the time the date arrived we had more runners than last year and 2 people who wanted to run the entire 50 miles!

before the crack of dawn this saturday they gathered to start. last year it was Josh and one support runner. This year my dear friend's daughter Keke and another friend's coworker Bill, along with 3 pace runners. 2 vehicle support crews with Josh running one.
Josh is in the middle with Bill and Keke either side

That is great!

it was a miserable drizzly day but that didn't stop these folks! Not a single one backed out. truly amazing. The relay runners ran between 5 to 30 miles each with most of them running at least 10-15. Keke and Bill always 3 if not more runners with them at any given time

They did it! and I am simply overwhelmed. Held her at only a few hours old, loved and watched her grow up. Met him only a day ago, he heard and wanted join the cause, met a true champion. They both ran 50 Miles, the last four on the beach, surrounded by the most outstanding group of relay runners and safety support crew.
to watch people putting it out there like this for someone you love is such a humbling experience. Thank you, just two little words trying to say so much!

and the most touching part of the day came as a total surprise. Our 11 yr old grandson, who was visiting for Christmas, decided to run the last four and a half miles down the beach with Keke. I had planned to run with him and his younger brother a mile down the beach and double back to drive and meet the runners at the finish. Apparently Ethan had other plans! In my arms at the finish he told me he thought his Grampy was going to be really proud of him

What a wonderful story and pictures! Thank you so much for sharing :)

People can be truely wonderful---thank you so much for sharing! What a Christmas gift!

wow and wow

I love how you told us the whole story by putting a few photos in each 'reply' in the thread, it made it just so great to read a bit, look at the enlarged photos then read the next bit ...

Yes people can be wonderful and they can make all the difference. Obviously these people had a great impact on your grandson, and it will be a lasting one. He learned a lot that many children never get to learn and experience.

I'm full of smiles and tears!

meg what a wonderful story and a touching tribute to both steve, you and all those great people. I am so proud and happy for all of you. your grandson especially!

Wonderful but made me cry! Xx

Truly amazing. You are so blessed to have such wonderful people in your life!

I am glad you all enjoyed. Last year when Josh ran we were just dumb struck that someone would do that, run 50 miles for Steve, how crazy is that? When they wanted to do it again we just shook our heads in amazement. All ready they are talking about next year! there seems to be a competition going on among a few of them of who is running the most miles for Steve over both years and who is going to keep that title!
and Robert Wu and his family of 3 have decided to each take a section and have the Wu family cover the entire 50 .
they leave me speechless!
