My friend took the picture of this a month ago in Cooperstown, N.Y. at the baseball Hall Of Fame.
 
So in 1939 he lasted 2 years, and now in 2014 we last about 2 years. Wow, great progress!
 
I'm trying to remember where I recently learned (Maybe it was at this forum) that Lou Gehrig lived an unusual life - he ate poorly (Probably lots of hot dogs and fries!), didn't rest adequately and in general ignored his health. This was probably how he managed to set the most consecutive games played record (recently broken by Cal Ripkin, Jr.).
 
seems that people like that are mostly immune to ALS
 
Really neat paper. I have the letter my grandfather received from the hospital after my grandmother's ALS was confirmed by autopsy in 1973.
