I hate these things. Mom's sore has stopped healing and I cannot see what difference it makes. Turning and changing her soiled linens rips the dressings lose and her mess always gets under the dressing. I wish we could just go to standard bandages and dressings.

Not sure about the pain pump as we have not started that yet. I hope is allows her more steady comfort that the Oxy is providing now. She had a mediport installed a few weeks ago and we are waiting on Home health to get that set up. I just hate the thought of another line to deal with when turning and cleaning her. We have a wound vac line, a feeding pump line, and now a mediport line.

I have had a pain pump for about 10 years. I am surprised they would consider a pain pump on a patient with ALS. My pain Dr and the ALS specialist are working to get my pump's batteries replaced sooner than they need to be because we don't recover from surgery well. The anesthesia has a very negative impact. They are trying to plan it so I get my PEG in place during the same surgery, even though I won't need it for a while (we hope). I am assuming you mean an implanted pain pump, so please correct me if I am wrong.

Have a serious conversation with both the pain Dr and neurologist about the effects of having a surgery. If the pump wasn't already implanted in me I don't think they would even consider it out here.

Good luck and if you want to talk privately I can give you contact info via pm.

I am not sure that I used the right term. They implanted a med port under mom's skin to allow better and easier access to give her meds. She will now be on IV pain meds instead of pills. Mom is at the end and is completely bedridden. She had other complications before the ALS and is in a bit of pain. Mom has gone through all these recent procedures with flying colors. She is completely healthy minus the wound and the ALS. After looking more about the term "pain pump" I see now that I used the incorrect term.
