Anyone heard of DPS - Diaphragm Pacing Stimulation device? Seems like a simple idea.

Excerpt from the link below:
The goal is to free a person’s
dependence on a ventilator over time
by stimulating the diaphragm with
intermittent electric impulses. They
cause the diaphragm, the primary
muscle for breathing in, to contract,
thus enabling air to enter the lungs as
in normal respiration."

Google it for more info....and here is one of the links that I found.

I heard the diaphram pacing is working pretty good.
If you can get them to try it ,seems they are picking
thur for this trail. I heard that guy Augie got it done last month.

This device works nicely for people who don't have ALS. With ALS your FVC has to be above 50% to be a candidate and all it does is slow down the deterioration of diaphragm muscles so you can be bipap free for, maybe a year or two. If someone is on a vent they are not a candidate. I have checked into this but my breathing is already to bad to be considered. If a PALS FVC is over 50% I would encourage them to look into this.

If you look down at the bottom of this page there are replies to other posts here on the subject.
