anyone here wiithout insurance like me. no way i can afford it.

I would check your local ALS organization or MDA org. They have a lot of things to loan out. I am surprised that you can not find affordable insurance since no they cannot reject you for pre existing condition. Unless your state does not have a health exchange. Is Texas a state that refused to cooperate?

I did a test signup on the .gov site and was immediately accepted (w/ALS) for 90% coverage for $609 or $690 (don't remember). I think the provider was BCBS. Took about 15 mins. Not cheap, but less than before HP.

FWIW,

Max

Have you applied for social Security disability? You should get Medicare part b. Then you can get a Medicare supplement plan. Of course, if you're not ready for SSDI, then that's another story. I have to say, they don't show all the Obamacare supplements if you aren't logged in. I think it's impossible for a single person to actually pay $600/month.

Are you a veteran. If so go to your paralyzed veterans rep. They help you get things going. ALS is considered to be service connected, 100 percent disability

if you are not ready for SSDI then I would think your needs are at a level that it would be much cheaper to pay for your needs out of pocket rather than $600 a month on top of the copays and the 40/60 spilt .... jeez insurance these days seems to mean pay a lot of money to still have to pay your own medical bills

im so tired of my problems just want it over

Call your Congressman/woman, tell them your situation... they may be able to refer you to an agency or program that will help. Hopefully there is something for you. And try the suggestions replied above. Also, call your doctors office, they may be able to steer you to something. I think of you folks often. Another long shot if you are willing to go public... call your local TV station and tell them your story. Try everything. Don't give up.

WHAT! That's terrible. I also discovered that "a beneficiary must also have sufficient history paying Social Security taxes in order to be eligible for SSDI and Medicare."

But your alimony check is a big deal. Hire a lawyer to retry your alimony, now that things have changed radically.

cukita, have you looked into Medicaid rather than Medicare? Texas has horrible health care options and a very high percentage of uninsured. Hopefully they still have Medicaid available.

It amazes me that so many people do not know that in order to get Social Security and Medicare they have to have paid into these programs over the years. These are not government handouts. The payments are the return on the investment we make by paying into the programs. Not understanding this accounts for a lot of the criticism they get for being socialist, handouts, and generally freebies at the cost of taxpayers.

I agree... had a friend of mine once call Social Security and Medicare "Public Welfare!" I told him..."You moron! It's your money!" But, (big BUT) he too had been mislead into believing anybody (certain folks) were drawing from Social Security and HE was paying for it. The internet is flooded with those stories. But, "If it's on the Internet.... it must be true." :)

Anyway, I hope someone can direct her to some help.
