My friend is failing pretty fast from his bulbar ALS. He is having difficulty swallowing and I have been buying him the VHC Boost shakes, Thick It and the Nestle thickened juice.

My question....does anyone know if these are covered by Medicare? I ask because I saw a sticker on one of the items at Walgreens that said it was covered by Medicare part B. But Medicare is new to us so how would one submit a claim for reimbursement?

Thank you.

Not sure about medicare as it is my secondary insurance. Generally you need a modified barium swallow test ordered by the Dr. To have proof of swallowing difficulties. Then the Dr. Submits the order, just like any other piece of equipment to the DME and/or the insurance company.

I replied yesterday but went to moderation. I use Simply Thick, it is a gel & mixes better & no gritty feeling to the fluids.

All of my wife's feeding tube nutrition needs are supplied by Hospice and we receive no bill.

....THEY..........bill Medicare
