Hey everyone-- I think my husband has a cavity (actually a couple that I saw). I want to take care of it--don't want it to become severe . the problem (one of many) is his mouth only opens about an inch and he has lots of saliva and cough/choking and spasticity. Any suggestions? The tooth in question is a molar about half way back on the bottom. Would a muscle relaxant allow his mouth to be opened wider-- or would it still be impossible because it has been so long and the jaw joint may be frozen?
Does anyone have any experience with this? I haven't even told him what I saw in his mouth--he will get all worked up and I want to have answers before telling him. Ignoring it is not an option since he is slow progressing-- he hasn't been to the dentist since he was diagnosed in 2007 other than one checkup when he has jaw pain from clenching. that was very difficult for the dentist and they didn't do any work--just looked around.
I just don't know how they will be able to drill out a tooth and fill it in the condition he is in....
