Default A quote

I read this quote, and I thought it was so perfectly worded.

When someone you love dies, you don't lose her all at once; you lose her in pieces over a long time -- the way the mail stops coming, and her scent fades from the pillows and even from the clothes in her closet and drawers. Gradually, you accumulate the parts of her that are gone. Just when the day comes -- when there's a particular missing part that overwhelms you with the feeling that she's gone, forever -- there comes another day, and another specifically missing part.

John Irving -- Prayer for Owen Meany

Here's another one I just got from a friend.

Someone was asked if she could ever get over the death (in this case of a child). Her reply was that it is always with you but eventually you can crawl out from under it and carry it in your pocket.

As I was reading the first quote, it reminded me of my Grandmother after the loss of my Grandfather. The second quote would refer to my sister. Her daughter died suddenly at 13 months of age. I can tell you that at almost 30 years later, she still has not gotten over it. She is just making the motions.

From my own experience, I can tell you. I never got over it, just through it.
It has been 10 years since my adult daughter died unexpectantly. Not a day goes by that I don't think of her.
A lot of good memories and joyful times.
