My husband has been diagnosed with this certain branch of ALS. They also nickname it as (man in a barrel) syndrome. Is anyone dealing with this in particular?

I've read about what you refer to, but we would need more info. I've never heard of a "branch" of ALS. It is or it isn't (ALS). What were the EMG results?

Welcome to the forum.

It was my diagnosis for nearly a year. Most neuromuscular specialists will give you that diagnosis if you have mostly lower motor neuron symptoms and they stay confined to your upper body for a long time at the beginning.

Mostly, the neuros just watch you and deal with your symptoms as they come. They know that some of those patients (like me) will eventually progress into full-blown ALS or PMA, so it's a waiting game.

To the original poster -- I hope your husband is luckier than I was. But the waiting can definitely be nerve-wracking.

Agree with you 100% - I do believe you posted this to me last year about BAD. If I remember correctly you and my husband have the same neuro at Duke. He stated on June 21s of this year that the BAD is now all out ALS.
