I was watching the news a little while ago and it was mentioned that this is the anniversary of Lou Gehrig retiring from baseball due to his diagnosis of ALS. That would be 1939.

I thought it was on July 4th.

July 4th was the "luckiest man" speech.

If I might paraphrase a bit

In the year 2939,
When ALS is still alive,
If cALS can survive,
They may find-
In the year 3939
Ain't gonna need to tell the truth,
Tell no lies.
Everything you think, do, and say
Is in the pill you took today.
In the year 4939
Ain't gonna need your teeth,
Won't need your eyes.
You won't find a thing to chew,
Nobody's gonna look at you.
In the year 5959
Your arms are hanging limp at your side,
Your legs got nothing to do,
Some machine's doing that for you......Whoa-oh-oh

We're there in 2011, except for the pill! Where is the DANG pill? Where's the CURE?

i know that Lou's birthday is June 19. Is that maybe what you heard Kim?

His last appearance in a game was April 30, 1939.
His ALS diagnosis was confirmed on June 19, his 36th birthday.
His retirement was announced by the Yankees on June 21.
July 4 was "Lou Gehrig day" and he made his famous speech.
He died almost 2 years later, on June 2.

TMASTERS said all I wanted to say!

Thanks, Tom!

Fantastic reply to this subject

Very creative, CJ!

I had a dream last nite or really this morning just before awakening.

I had written a paper in a literature class and my oriental professor decided that she should illustrate it with slides. We arranged to present it as a show at the museum and I read as she worked the slides.

Before we started the show, we played a video that highlighted ALS and solicited donations.

This morning I have been thinking that there must be something I can contribute. There must be more than simply being a victim. I will talk to my wife when she gets in today. We can do something, if even small.
