My husband was diagnosed in February, 2008, but has been very lucky and has progressed very little. Lately he has been unable to straighten his right arm out completely. Is this a sympton of ALS?

It can be.. joints can lock up as muscles atrophy. Is he seeing a physical therapist? She might be able to give him some range of motion exercises to help.

Or, on the UMN side, spasticity can do that in extreme measure. (Think of people with high level cerebral palsy, and how their limbs get twisted.) If it is UMN, botox injections can restore the flexibility for up to six months at a time.

As Beky strated, Botox is good for spasticity, buyt I was mnot a cnadidate for it. The dovtor said I wasd too spastic amd irt would eualk amn overdose! I thamnked him for his homnesty.
