Hi, I'm looking for some advice.

My grandma who is very far along in the ALS disease progression fell down and broke her hip yesterday. She's in the ER and they're recommending hip replacement surgery. She has very little muscle tone left and I'm not sure that she would be able to do rehab. Has anyone with ALS gotten hip replacement surgery? or has had a similar situation?

At the end of the day your grandma needs the fracture fixed. It must be unable to be screwed, which is why they would be recommending a full hip replacement. Regardless of having ALS or not, it will have to have some form of internal fixation. Rehab would of course be difficult. If she is still walking then, I hope she would get lots of help and support during the rehab phase. Sadly it could also mean a big set back. Best of luck, and I hope she does ok.
