can someone please tell me about als the doctors say she has stage 4 i'm not sure what this means if someone could help me i would appreciate it thank you

Jade, I've never heard of "stages" of ALS. Was your mom just recently diagnosed--this month? All I can do is guess, which isn't helpful. I hope one of our nurses or maybe a Canadian nurse will have an answer.

I have heard of ALS stages being referred to as early, middle and late.

I am sorry your mom has this disease. How affected is she from ALS? When did she start having symptoms?

yes she was just diagnosed with als on april 5 2011 it was my sister who said she was in stage 4 but i'm assuming she has the late stage of als her speech is very bad and she has lost the use of her right hand

Jade, could your mother have four areas affected by ALS--speech, right arm and two lesser problem areas?
