Hi there,

I recently read on a "fact sheet" about repetitive behavior related to cognitive changes that can occur as ALS progresses.

I'm wondering if the person with ALS realizes that they are engaging in the repetitive behavior and can't inhibit (kinda like what can happen for some people with crying/laughing) or if they don't even necessarily know that they are doing a repetitive action.

Does anyone know about this?

Thanks very much,

Judi

Just a guess here but I think they probably don't realise they're doing it so wouldn't/couldn't stop it.

AL.

My experience is he had no idea he was doing it... or saying it, there were certain phrases that were used over and over.

Thanks, but yes I guess I still have the question because with the changes in motor control (lack thereof) then maybe it motor action wouldn't be able to be under the person's control either.

Thanks Katie. I just saw your reply as well. That sounds as though your sweetie experienced some aphasia of some sort.

Sorry for your loss. J.

Judi... Glen had fairly severe FTD. Aphasia is a common symptom.
