Hi,
I am trying to find out how a port works out for getting ivig infusions versus using a vein each time with an IV. I have been getting ivig for 6 years and my veins are getting used up. Are there any concerns to be aware of with a port? thanks
Bryan

Hi Bryan. You should hop over to the GBS/CIDP Forum as many on that site receive IVIG weekly and monthly. Many have ports --especially the children who have CIDP. The primary concerns for the port seem to be proper installation and then proper flushing and careful sterile technique to avoid infection. Infection is the biggest risk. Hubby often talks about getting a port as his veins aren't very good anymore. I encourage him to carry on as long as he can without the port due to infection risks. At his hospital day care where he gets his IVIG, there is only one woman with a port. However, on the GBS/CIDP forum those with ports swear by them.
