LAURI S POST OF AUGUST 5:

"Melody, it seems really strange to me that you would ask me for an update. You haven't returned my messages or especially the phone call you promised. Nor has Stu replied to my email sent thru ALSGA's website. You apparently spoke to Stu about the PR specialist you mentioned it an earlier post on this thread, but didn't get back with me. The only conclusion I could come to was that you and Stu were handling this without me. Communication is key. "

Lauri,

I must take exception to the above post, which was closed before anyone had a chance to respond. Perhaps it was deleted, but I find no recent email from you thru my website. Your last message to me was on July 18 thru Facebook which didn't require a response.

If you have been on my facebook page you may have read my posts practically begging for someone to step forward to take control of the PEPSI REFRESH effort on behalf of ALSGA. I am workinng my head off running this foundation. I can't do both. After 3 years and 1000 ALS patients no one stepped up. I will also state that without exception, whenever someone does volunteer to take charge of this type of event on our behalf, they either fail to make the necessary effort or simply disappear.

The recent Chase event is an example. When "causes" like the Crochet Club for Kids, or the Podunk Drum and Bugle Corps can get far more support than a foundation trying to help desperate PALS, something is wrong. Two hundred "causes" won between $25,000 and $250,000. We were out of the running from the beginning. There will be alot of happy drummers and buglers, but I could not get a dime for ALSGA.

So, I'll ask again. Is someone willing to give ALSGA 4 weeks of honest conscientious effort taking charge of this tremendous opportunity? We have a realistic shot at winning between $50,000-$250,000. I'm not asking for "guarantees". Just an honest chance.

Stu

I'm really sorry to see that I've misstepped somewhere with this. I was under the impression that Laurie was going to spear head this project, specifically for September kick off. I did meet with a PR firm, and he shared some thoughts with me that I passed on to Stu.

I will be more than happy to take on the Pepsi Re-fresh contest in the future, but this month and September are difficult ones for us. My husband is going for more testing in DC, and I will be taking my daughter cross country in her car to college...
Stu-I will be in touch with you.
Peace,
Melody

Thanks a lot Stu. I really love having my full name at he top of this thread.

I explained to Melody why I closed the thread. It was actually a conversation between her and I until you decided to take it public.

I would rather have had this discussion in a more adult fashion Stu. I'm done with this drama, I won't be responding to you here again.

So sad. Good people, good cause, ugly pride?

It is sad that something that started out as such a great opportunity ended up with people being short with each other. I hope this can be worked out with no hard feelings between anyone.

Stu just submit ALSGA, post the link and we'll vote. Reading over the requirements to submit sounds like it would take 5 minutes and an elevator speech.

It was just a misunderstanding. We've communicated privately about it. No worries...

Our experience with the Chase Community Giving project is that we need to find ways to reach the larger audience(beyond the CALS/PALS)...While the actual 'submission process is not too challenging, the 'elevator speech' Jeff refers to does take a bit of thought and time to put together. It also strongly recommends a video, which will take some time.

I've committed to picking up the Pepsi Challenge after September. Can't do it until then though. My husband and I leave tomorrow for a week at a clinic at the VA for MORE testing, and then I have to drive across country with my daughter to take her car out to Colorado College. Stu is up to his neck trying to take care of requests for PALS.

If someone else would like to jump in now, I would not take offense. I just can't do it before then. ALSGA deserves the support and fundraising is a totally different animal that should be tackled on his/ALSGA's behalf.

Peace,
Melody
