Do any of you have any thoughts or information on Lymes disease? I see a lot of it come my way and I am skeptical. I know that Joy is lined up for Lymes treatments beginning in December as they found three of the four markers for the disease.

Is there anything to any of this... or is it another snake-oil-saleman tactic? Have you read or experience anything on this?:?:

Someone mentioned it to me the other day.I would like a better understanding regarding"three of four markers".I'm skeptical, too.

I am in social media and it makes me even more skeptical as it seems there is a lot of "propaganda" posing as news and it seems... fishy. I came across a so-called news article on twitter that is being forwarded around, and when I went to it, it was a self-published article by a Lyme disease group. I looked and saw that they get grants and take donations, but I didnt see anything that made me feel confident that this was something valid. Concerns me more so knowing that Joy is going through with their treatments.

Jodi, there are a ton of threads here relating to Lyme. Do a search and you will find a lot of reading on the subject and I know of at least a couple of members who have been through Lyme testing and treatments.

Thanks Barry, I have never done a search on here before but I will give it a try

jamorel, look at the bottom of this page, there are threads about Lymme.

The most striking comment on your post Jamorel is that the doctor is waiting until December to begin treatments. My husband had Lyme encephalitis back in 1993. It can be a serious, debilitating, and disabling disease if not treated early and thoroughly. It is diagnosed by testing, the Elisa and/or Western Blot (usually blood testing is done but if there is neurological involvement they may also test the spinal fluid by the same tests), and/or symptoms. My husband had late Lyme and he was very ill for a long time with residual disabilities as a result. Now many years later he has ALS but the two are unrelated though people with late Lyme can present with ALS like symptoms that was not his situation.

My concern for your wife is the delay in treatment. Try to find an infectious disease specialist with a good reputation that treats Lyme patients but is not fanatical about Lyme. Some docs get a reputation for over-diagnosis and over-treatment as do some people. Lyme disease can be tricky but treatable if caught early.

Keep us posted on how she is doing!
