hi my mam has just been diagnoised with MND 3 months ago! she is 58 and the whole family is devastated! she is now in a wheelchair she cant use her hands and her speech is slowly going to! i would really like some advice on BACLOFEN which she has just started taking but it seems to be making her worse! is this the norm? she is only on a low dose at moment and we are gradually increasing it but it is very worrying and very scarey to watch her deteriate so fast!

Baclofen is a muscle relaxer, and does cause drowsiness, but it will get better as she gets used to it. Do a search of baclofen on this thread. HUGS Lori

hi,i am sorry to hear about your mum.

it can take several weeks or a few months for baclofen to fully get into the system so you feel the full effects.
as the dose increases and the longer she is on it things should improve.
for most people oral baclofen works but if not they can fit a baclofen pump.
i have been on baclofen for about 10yrs now, i was on 60mg a day but now 40mg.
here in the uk(in usa they say different)maximum unsupervised oral dose is 80mg.
see how she goes and gradually increase dose to 60mg if after a few weeks they are still not helping then tell her neuro.
hopefully they will work and give your mum some relief.
