I woke up this morning, turned on my computer and went to Chase Community Giving to see how many votes the incredible nonprofit charity "ALS Guardian Angels" had received during the night. Sadly, not one more than the day before. There are 232 votes and we only have eight days left. How is it possible that there are only 232 votes? I alone have 249 facebook friends and family and I sent each one a plea to please vote! This is not about the most WORTHY charity. This is about the nonprofit organization that simply gets the most votes.

The number one spot is held by HEATHER ON EARTH MUSIC FOUNDATION INC with 10200 votes. THE ORGANIZATION'S PURPOSE IS TO PAY MUSIC THERAPISTS AT CHILDREN'S HOSPITALS AND PROVIDE MUSIC EQUIPMENT FOR PATIENTS AT CHILDREN'S HOSPITALS. I do not have anything against musical therapy or giving musical equipment to hospitalized children and yet...I can not believe that is more important than making the LIVES of PALS and CALS a little easier. Because they are in first place, Chase will award them with $1MM. ONE MILLION DOLLARS!

The next five charities will each receive $100K.

5

Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) is a genetic connective tissue (collagen) disorder that causes debilitating pain, joint dislocations, organ/arterial rupture/ dissections and has resulted in numerous deaths from a lack of knowledge.

The next 100 charities will receive $25K. In order for ALS Guardian Angels to make it to a spot to receive $25K we need to beat out number 105 DREAMING ZEBRA FOUNDATION in Portland, OR with
733 votes. This foundation, The Dreaming Zebra Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charity providing support so that children and young adults are given an equal opportunity to explore and develop their creativity in the arts.

This brings me to my title of "Blind Cats". STRAY BLIND CATS have more support, more friends and more advocates for their blindness than people with ALS...this is the truth. How does that make you feel? It makes me soul sad. It makes me outraged! I am utterly appalled that it is more critical that an organization will receive ONE MILLION DOLLARS to pay for musical instruments and therapists than to give the gift of speaking, respite care or assistance with the horror of day to day living with our PALS that are human beings DYING. I am completely disgusted to see that STRAY BLIND CATS will receive $100K so that they are not euthanised when my child watches his Daddy die a little more every day RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIS EYES because there is no known cause, no treatment, no cure and the ONLY assistance/support that we receive is from this generous foundation of ALS Guardian Angels. I feel a need to add another clinical diagnosis to our plight. The disease of ALS APATHY. We have so little control over what is happening to the people that we love and here is this one little effort that takes less than one second to vote and there is no support. Yes, it is time consuming to "send to friends" but think of all the incredible impact that Stu could make with 25K to say nothing of a million dollars! If we can not even support ourselves and make a change in something this simple, how in the world do you ever expect anyone else to care about our plight and support us? Kinga, we backed you with thousands of votes. Please make this your focus for the next 8 days and help us-pay it forward! I am happy that 52 of my friends and family voted out of the over 200 invites that I sent. THANK YOU! Would they rest of you PLEASE vote for this organization that supports us in such incredible ways?! Would you take it one step further and ask everyone that you have in your address book to do the same? WE NEED A VICTORY!

It really doesn't make any sense, does it? Thanks for this thread. I voted and shared with friends.

Voted. Am I the only one that gets so confused on Facebook? I had to search for 10 minutes before I could actually cast a vote! Finally did it!

CJ, I'm not facebook savvy either. I spend more time wandering around sometimes, trying to navigate.

For others reading this, there is a box to the right side of Stu's address and the total vote count. The subject title inside the box lists ways you can help the charity, and top link of list is to vote.

Well looking on the bright side, if the Harry Potter Alliance (#3) wins, they can use their magic to cure Muggle diseases like ALS.

I did vote but you have to go through the scary looking Facebook warning screen saying you authorize the Chase application to do all these nasty things to your account. All the Facebook games and apps have this warning, so I've never used any of them because I didn't like the way this sounded. I made an exception in this case, though, the first time ever. I figure the worst it'll do is post messages to my wall about the charity. Hopefully it won't also send messages to my friends claiming I'm interested in the new Chase credit card or whatever. This seemed like an important enough cause that I was willing to take the chance.

I agree with Hal, in many ways I think that Facebook is great in allowing us to stay connected but I also worry about Facebook applications. I have never been interested in playing online games and have avoided all applications (sorry Farmville farmers, I'm not in the least bit interested) and it was just a simple matter of voting (which I did) then I think that it would be a lot easier to get votes. Maybe it's just me as an old fart but that is the problem, maybe it isn't as complicated for the blind cat supporters.

Facebook can be a very dangerous place as its security is an issue. There has been a lot in the news lately about that so please be careful.

So, are you saying I'm an old fart, Barry? LMAO!

CJ, I would never say that about you!

Yes, definitely be careful on Facebook. That's how my other computer got the Trojan virus. When I got my new laptop, the guy at Best Buy said to use Google Chrome as the browser when on Facebook as it tends to catch more things. So, I use Internet Explorer for ALS Forums, and Google Chrome for Facebook.
Back to the subject at heart...yes, it is very sad that blind cats have more votes. I know I voted, and I've posted it multiple times on my wall on Facebook. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem that many are listening to our pleas. All we can do is continue to try.

Hal, Barry, my thoughts exactly. I did vote, but hate like crazy to give any information out. I'm continually on the edge of leaving fb.

Yup, Facebook apps do have some major security issues...I'm not Farmville fan either, BUT...the chance to get ALS Guardian Angels a minimum of $25,000 just for being the top 100 organizations with the LARGEST NUMBER OF VOTES...seems like an achievable goal.

Thanks for going and spreading the word. I've sent emails to Nancy O'Dell and Ellen Degeneres...:)
A girl can dream...

I voted too but being very new to FB and like others found it hard to navigate to the vote button.

I too like Barry and Ann and others have concerns re the security of it and are very carefull on it. (when I get time to get on it that is )

Cheers
Peter

Hi Kay Marie, I tried to cast a vote but got frustrated before I got to where I could vote. Like Peter and others I don't use Facebook except on occassion sine I contracted a virus from it about 8 months ago and no longer trust its security.

Friends reach me on this site (PM) or my personal e-mail.

How are you doing after your last trip? And, what about Wayne? Have things leveled out yet?

Praying you both are stable and enjoying one another in this summer on the Prairie.

Blessings and love,

Diane

Dianne, I sent you the link on face book. If you want to share with others, click on the share button, then type the name in. HUGS Lori
