jaw locking up

I am new to the forum. My mother has als. She is now unable to get out of bed without assistance. Today the nurse said her jaw is starting to lock up. It has been a really hard day for me. It is nice hearing everyone on here with alot of the same things in common. I don't really understand the jaw locking up thing. We just doubled her medicine and so she falls asleep all the time and when she is awake she tries to get out of bed, but we are scard she will fall. I hate this disease.

I have jaw problems too. My jaw tries to lock up when I yawn! But I also have TMJ. I try my best to fight off the yawns when I feel one coming on.

Phil, I feel your pain on that one. I have TMJ too and it's rough. My jaw locked up the other day and has been super sore since then, especially when I chew. I have a bite guard but I'm not sure about someone with ALS wearing one - is it safe? Plus, I'm not sure a bite guard would help with the ALS symptoms. Anyone have any thoughts?
