Pardon my stupidity, but what is Canada Day?

Canada Day is our equivelent of your 4th of July or Independance Day. July 4, 1776, the United States claimed independence from Britain. Canada became a self-governing dominion in July 1st 1867 while retaining ties to the British crown.

The truth is we were jealous of your fireworks displays and needed an excuse to make some noise.
