Default anyone had "almost normal" emg

Hello again,

I have another question concerning my possibl diagnosis. When Dr. Bril did my emg about one month ago she mumbled that the results looked "almost normal"??? Anyone on here able to explain that terminology to me.

I would think that a test would be normal or abnormal but are there also shades of grey in an emg where the results are hard to distinguish?

When she told the guy that did nerve conduction study to record results she said of the three spots she tested "normal/moderate...normal/moderate and normal/high"

Any quesses as to what that might refer to...also those who had emg's (i guess that would be everyone pretty much) how many spots were tested?

Thanks in advance for any guesses as to what this means.

I know you are not medical doctors but i think many on here know more about this stuff than alot of md's.

Well, OK , lets look at it logically.

Me , being "almost normal" am not qualified to even play a doctor on TV.

Consider that a EMG measures the time it takes a signal to get from the probe (cattle prod) to the receptors (frankenstein wires on your leg or arm)

So , based on your words , there are ranges of times , categorized .

High
Normal High
Normal Moderate
NORMAL
Almost normal
Low
and your are effin dead

So , I would take almost normal as a good thing. Besides , what is normal anyways.

Is your doctor a neuro that specializes in MND ? If not , seek a second opinion from one.

Hope this help and you didnt laugh too much.

Glen

Hello Jackie

If you can put the actual results of the EMG on here, I won't have to guess. Get them and I will tell you what they mean.

I would post if i had them...for some reason the doctor seems to want everything to be secret. When the assisstant was typing on the emg screen he saw me watching and actually turned the whole unit around so i couldn't see what he was typing.

Yeah i guess almost normal is about as good as it gets lol,

Hi Jackie- you are entitled to a copy of any and all of your records. you can fill out a request for records at your neuro's office and have them sent to you. who knows why the neurologist moved the EMG machine-- maybe he didn't want you to be distracted. I actually got my EMG results directly from the lab where the neuro conducted the test. you can probably do the same.
