Hi,

I called the neuro’s office again for the EMG results because he hasn’t called me back but he’s on holiday.

I would like to ask a question regarding pain.

I’m very confused about what’s going on with my body.
I’m suffering from severe upper back pain and left shoulder pain. The left shoulder pain I can somehow reduce with medication but the upper back pain is really very severe and doesn't seem to respond to the pain killers. The pain is really bad.
When I’m sleeping and I wake up in the middle of the night I don’t have pain in my upper back but as soon as I get up the pain is there.
Is this because of the muscles getting weaker in my back?
I’m having physical therapy for some weeks now but it doesn’t improve. Also the twitching in my back goes on and on.
Did someone experience this kind of pain without obvious weakness?

The neuro that I saw a couple of weeks a could said it could be mnd but the neuro that I saw in August (didn’t have that pain and non stop twitching in back yet – only widespread twitching going on for 2 years) said nothing pointed in that direction.

Could this severe upper back / left shoulder pain be related to ALS? Sorry to bother you all with this but I'm so fed up with this pain, twitching & uncertainty

Hi,

my partner has ALS. He also has shoulder pain. He was told by his physio that the two are not related (in his case). While on holiday, he did some regualr swimming and the pain eased off.

Hi,

I'm not sure where you are based, but we have a clinic in Leeds (Freedom Back Clinics) and we specialise in Musculoskeletal Disorders. Our practitioners include Osteopaths, Chiropractors, Massage Therapists and Acupuncturists. If you live in the area it would be worth visiting our clinic for a free spinal health check which will help determine the problem and why the physical therapy is not having the desired effect. If you don't live locally then you can always visit our website - Freedom Back Clinics, or add another message and I will ask one of our practitioners to respond to you.

Hope that helps.

I do not know how much Physical Therapy you are doing, but I was told to do anything physical in moderation as this may aggravate the spasms and therefore actually increase the rate of progression.
Most people I have talked with say to only do stretching and rang of motion exercises so as to not aggravate the muscles.
I know the daay after I tried to do any type of physical activity was very painful for me. Just remember each of us is different and this disease reacts in different ways.

Bart,
Why don't you ask your doctor for muscle relax. and anti-inflamatory tabs.
Try to de-stress; it might help with your pain.
I agree with Dani, light streching in a water might be helpful.
