I have some doubts of the emg exame, i have done several emg, but i would like to know the places where neuro sticks the needle, for example i have chest troaugh pain, should'nt the needle be stucked there?

Doctor only stick needle in legs arms shoulders knees, no face and no chest.

Is there a diference with emg and ncv? here in portugal there is no exame called ncv i think emg covers all.

One neuro just stick needles made me push here and there and said all normal

other one tooke measures of my arm stuck needle and gave shocks in arm

they haven put the need in my back upper leg there is where i have cramps only left leg, but still no atrofphy in legs

The neuro will emg based on your complaints and clinical exam. EMGs are very accurate. Why have you have several emgs? Have they all been clean?

Anxiety and depression can cause pain. Pain is nothing more than your brain telling you something hurts. Chronic pain can also be caused by neurotransmitter imbalances and the anxiety medicine they place you on can help that as well. The human brain is so fascinating. The pain feels real in these situations and it does not mean you are a bad person, faking, or a hypochondriac. Your doctors have cleared you and yet you can not move on and seem paralyzed with fear of something your doctors have cleared you. Go live your life and use this as an experience to treasure the moments, not live in fear of the next.....

Try the anxiety medication and dont google anything for 2 weeks.. I bet you will feel better.

Everlast,

When they used the "shocks" on you that was the NCV. I understand that NCV is (usually?) done the same day as the EMG. Mine was done 30 minutes prior to my EMG.

yes but some of the emg didn´t have that shocks, and mine emg took 5 minutes

I think doctors will avoid doing the emg in sensitive muscles (face, tongue, etc...) unless they have a compelling reason because it is harder to get a good reading because of the discomfort involved and difficulty getting a patient to relax. I imagine limbs are easier because person performing the test can coax the patient and reposition the limb as necessary.

My EMGs (excluding the NCS) have taken from 15 minutes (local neuro testing arm, shoulder, and neck) to a little over 30 minutes (neuromuscualr specialist at a University hosptial and Mayo clinic testing a side of the body and a couple of other spots).

Best wishes,

Robert
