Pardon my take-off on the Lone Ranger...

I got a call from the neurologist's office today. He's had time to revue all the testing that has been done on me to date and has decided its time for another round of MRI's (brain, spine, butt - etc... it can't all be in my head, you know).

The only pittiable thing about it is, once I have the MRI's done, its going to take about 4 weeks before I can get in to hear the results; hence, "Hi-Ho Pokey! Away!

Kim, I'm so glad that you are maybe getting closer to an answer ... but waiting a month for results? I still say that some neurologists are just sadists who couldn't get into dental school.

We'll all be cheering you on, hoping they nail it this time.

That was another great one, Beth - sadists not able to get into dental school. I'll have to remember that one. I have a friend who is a dentist and you know there just has to be more than one reason (hygene) they wear those masks. Its really designed to hide those sadistic smiles they have while they stick needles and drills in your mouth and ask, "Can you feel that?"

Yep, another 4 week wait but at this point, I'm almost numb from it all.8)

I am glad that one of the MRI's will be spinal. This will allow them to finally see my pinched nerve. I'll be well in no time...

What's another 4-6 weeks among friends, anyhow?

Z,
Have you ever heard the old saying "you could walk around with a nail in your foot for that long"-
My dad told me that when I bought my first car-car pymt was about 60 a month, 69 VW bug, and I had to make 12 pymts on it!
Wishing you all the best

Wow a month for an MRI... Is this from the VA? I'm sure the time will pass quickly, but in an age when an MRI can be sent digitally it seems particularly dentistlike (I loved the analogy too).

Speaking of which, have you ever noticed that nothing pretty much nothing pertaining to dentists radiates comfort or convenience. I swear I could get into any medical specialist in the country faster than my dentist (well perhaps not the rheum). Last time I was scheduled a filling for my son their closest appointment was three months out, and my root canal was almost a six month wait (No, I do not want an endless prescription of vicodin. I would like the tooth fixed before addiction sets in.).

Best wishes,

Robert

kim-

I am so glad u r still zany and also glad they are looking further into things. I agree- 4 weeks? I'd call and pester them. What if you had accidentaltt swallowed your zaphoon and it showed in the image? Musical innards for a month?

Besides the joking- i hope your symptoms let up soon.

Cindy

Robert,

The reason for the 4 week wait after the MRI is because that is how long the appointments are booked out. If I were to have the MRIs next week, the first available appt with the VA neuro is 4 weeks wait.

Brenda,

I've never heard that saying before but I have to tell you, there is nothing like those 60's VW Bugs. They had a sound, feel and smell all of their own. I remember riding down a Miami freeway in the back of one with my trombone case on my lap when a fire broke out behind me in the engine compartment. The driver pulled the bug over, I jumped out, opened my trombone case and removed the spray bottle of water for my slide to extinguish the fire. That was back in the 70's. Al, you would have been proud of me!

Cindy,

Good looking avatar! Funny comment about swallowing the instrument!:-D
The last time I spoke with the doc, he was mentioning the MRI to have another peek at my spine. This one is for both brain and spine. They won't find much in my brain. In that respect, I share a common gene with Dorothy's friend, the Scarecrow.

The Doc did say he'd be looking to rule out stuff like MD, MS, PLS. Those are the things that will fade totally out of the picture when they simply unpinch my pinched nerve.

I still feel crappy with the cramping in my legs and my lower arm muscles are doing something other than being helpful and encouraging. Sometimes, picking up a cup of coffee is a strain for my right hand. But, life goes on. Yesterday I was able to tune 4 pianos. Today, I'm taking it easy.

Thank you - for lettin' me - be your friend! (Sly and the Family Stone emphasis).

Hi Kim...Hoping for answers for you. After a week or so, I would be putting a call into the office, and telling them you want the report faxed to you. They can't tell you no. It's your report. Be pushy. Sometimes you just have to get past the 'pit bull' receptionists  who screen the calls for the doctor.

Have a good day.

Kim,

Maybe there will be cancellations and they can squeeze you in earlier.

For me, the not knowing was the worst part.

-Tom

I hope they find something, Kim and I hope it is something treatable!

Kim, I hope you're on a cancellation list, that's a long time to have to wait! But, still you're moving forward, Just r - e - a - l - l - y s - l - o - w - l - y . . . .

Beth, you never cease to amaze me at your own brand of humor! Now... about those dentists.....

Years ago, I'd been divorced for a while, and a girlfriend of mine insisted that I needed to date a guy with a "real" job, (I'd been seeing a sculptor, enough said) And, her cousin - or someone, its been a long time ago now ~ had a friend that was a dentist, and we would be "perfect" for each other. Wouldn't I at least meet him for drinks and dinner.

So I did.

And over the FIRST glass of wine, he starts to tell me how his ex-wife has a restraining order against him and he couldn't' see his young daughters, because the wife claimed he'd molested them. WHOA! I set my glass down, and was gone!

But, this is not the end of the story, oh no no no...

A couple of months or so later, the local news comes on, and I'm watching it with my daughter while cooking dinner, and guess who's in the news! Yep, not so much him, as his angry sister in law, that had burst into one of his exam rooms at the office, and attempted to kill him by blowing a poisoned blow dart at him while he was working on a patient.

Trust me, I could not make this up.

Beth, I've never dated a neurologist....

Okay Rose wins the prize for craziest blind date story I have ever heard!

Kim- one month is a very long time when you're waiting for test results but I really must commend you for your amazingly positive attitude. I have read many of your posts and you are always positive. It's such an admirable quality and will take you very far. Best of luck to you! I'm wishing you the best outcome possible, hoping that you have something easily treatable! :)

Thanks to all of you for the suggestions (which I will follow) and kind words (very much appreciated).

I've gone full circle with this thing once, so far, starting with a GP, on to an orthopedist, back to the GP, on to a neuro, on to another neuro for a second opinion, back to a GP, back to a neuro. Somehow, we're going to have to fit a rheumy in there this time around. Shucks, I'm suddenly dizzy!

Thelma, I agree with Rose winning the Blind Date story award. Your kind comments were very nice. Thank you!

Rose, I can't even begin to imagine what a scene that must have been for you. I'll bet it was a while before you went on any more blind dates.

ooh, poison darts and everything! That is pretty wild-can't even imagine how he became a dentist, yuk!

rose- I commend you for having the good taste to sit the wine glass down!8)
talk soon,
-b

oh yeah, to Z,
Don't even think you'll feel bad for pestering the beejeebies out of the secretary at the dr's office. I know our girls get about 200 calls every day, and that's part of their job, so you hang in there! ( I already know you will-just wanted to let you know ):-D

Kim,
Just sneaking in to get updates on everyone. Curious as to when your last MRI was? Also, I know that they can help diagnose/rule out MS with the MRI, but how about PLS and MD? How can they use an MRI for that? I learn something new every single day...and then I usually promptly forget it unfortunately. ha ha ha.
And you are certainly NOT empty-headed....I think you are a writer in the making, quite honestly. I hope you are journaling this...of course you could use your posts here as part of a journal.
