Hello. I can't believe I joined this forum a year ago to ask about my 30 year old sister's neurological symptoms. Like so many people here, she has progressive muscle weakness and atrophy on one side or her body. It started with foot drop, progressed to subluxed shoulder, and recently now includes stiff, weak neck. She has been to every specialist you can imagine and no answers. While I have long suspected ALS, on the advice of people on this forum I have never told her to check out that possibility. So far, none of her doctors has sent her to an ALS specialist or mentioned that she may have it. I'm hoping that's a good sign.

I have just gotten off the phone with my sister who was wondering if her symptoms could have something to do with her being born more than a month prematurely. I was wondering if anyone else with these mysterious symptoms was born prematurely, whether or not you have received a diagnosis?

Thanks and good bless.
Jess

Jeff,

I was 2 months premature but that was over 52 years ago. My birth was also a case of placenta previa - almost killed my mother and me.

Wouldn't that be something if researchers found a wierd link between muscular/neurological disorders and premature birth?

just a thought

I am raising 3 premature children, even though I thought most of their problems were caused by the drugs in their system at birth { FOR YOU THAT DON'T KNOW ME, I ADOPTED, WAS NOT ON DRUGS MYSELF}always need to clear that up. 2 of them have mild CP. Some Dr's say the drugs, some say because they were premature, I know that we have gone through a lot because of them being premature, they just did not have time for everything to mature in the womb,{ heart, lungs, bones, etc.} So it I think it could be possible that there is more out there not known what needs the full nine months to be healthy, even after 7 years they are finding things in our 7 year old that was caused from him being born at 28 weeks. Just a thought.

preemie

Jesshart...yes I was a month early and small as I was one of twins....my twin does not have it..or at least no sign of it as yet...and long may that last. I am just questioning if he may be able to help me with stem cell treatment at the moment...it is a long shot, but hey anything is worth investigating....we have participated in the mnd dna bank for research to see if they can find anything there...they did think it was good to have a twin sample of dna. jennifer51

No, I was not born premature but it's an interesting theory!
