Hi! 27 year old female here concerned with some symptoms going on. First of all I began having msucle twitches about a week ago. All over. Head to toe, buttox and private parts. When I am doing things I do not see to have the twitching however when I lay down in a resting position I can feel them sporatically. Some days are better than others. I do not have health insurance and I saw my regular doctor and he does not seem to think this is ALS! I have read a bunch on the net and neuro forums so I thought I would now ask people that are familiar with the disease or living with it. My questions are. Do widespread RANDOM twitches head to toe tend to be concerning that its ALS. How do you dectect weakness in als is it just a general weak feeling or is it more profound? Atrophy? Is it noticeable. I have searched my whole body and it is all even and same size?
Before I go try to pocket out money for a neuro should I just relax and give it awhile and get my anxiety under step. Again, My GP said with my age, gender andwhat I have described als doesn't match?

Relax little lady. You don't have ALS. You might have BFS and you can use the search feature here to find out what that is. Relax. You aren't going to die. Unless you walk in front of a bus.

No Bus for Me Please!

Hello Thanks for your reply Al. I guess me having no insurance worries me so. BFS? I have seen that on the web somewhere. I will look it up. I am just so annoyed right now with these twitches. They start up as soon as I am done using the muscles and I want to get in bed and watch tv or take a nap. My regular doctor looked at me like I was a crazed person when I told him I was worried with ALS. His main words were your twitching is harmless, given your age, and your symptoms. Out came the prescription pad with some anti anxiety medications. Which I have not filled @ this time. I am going to go check out BFS! Thanx Again. (Going to watch out for bus's today).

Also Al

If a lot of them are up and down the legs and feet is that still ok. (however they still go all over) I think the majority are in the legs and feet..it seems. I read on BFS that is normal. Thanks for that info. It was great help.

A.,

It is probable BFS. you can get muscle twitching from anxiety, achohol withdrawl , caffine, or any kind of stimulant even medication or lack of sleep.
If god for bid your symtoms do get worse and you are worried about not having insurance
If you called your local MDA clinic and explained the sitiuation, they get grants for uninsured people
to see a specialist in a situation that would indicate ALS or any other disease that the MDA covers.
Just relax and don't think the worst the more you worry about it the worst the twiches will be.
