Default EMG results

Hello guys...I am a 28 years old and I started having muscle twitches in December 2018.

I had a EMG today and it showed fasciculations in every muscle, but also fibrillations and polyphasics in some muscles.

My doctor was worried and would like to repeat the test in two months....I am scared but I still have no weakness. Could this be ALS? I know I have to wait for my doctor but I feel lonely and I needed to speak with someone about this.

Default Re: EMG results

No, ALS can not be diagnosed based on those EMG findings, especially without clinical weakness leading to failure of muscle function.

Your EMG showed normal for insertional activity, sharp waves, amplitude, duration, and recruitment. Those findings being normal points away from ALS.

A lot of neurologists wonít even do EMGs on someone with a clean clinical exam.

I donít think the results are concerning for ALS.

As to whether they suggest another neurological problem, thatís something to discuss with your doctor.

We can not diagnose you. We can only tell you whether or not we think your presentation suggests ALS. And I donít feel it does.
