Default spasms, weakness in bicep

Hello ALS Community,

Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

I am curious if this description resonates with any of you:

I am in the process of being worked up for possible ALS (EMG study in a week). My neurologist is suspicious of ALS, but is also considering other possible causes of my symptoms, which include:

Severe spasms in my left bicep. Activated upon flexing. These spasms are intense and can cramp up my whole left arm, lasting several minutes.

General feeling of weakness in the left bicep--like I can't exert with it (or it will spasm).

(I also have muscle twitches and cramping elsewhere. E.g., sometimes my hand will freeze up or cramp severely for several minutes, or my calf will fasciculate, etc., but I know this is non-specific and by themselves are not cause of alarm.)

My main question is if the description of the muscle spasm sounds familiar to anyone (activated upon flexion), with attendant weakness.

Thank you for your time.

Sending deep care to all of you.

J.
