So heres my current situation. A year and a half ago I started twitching widespread. Like a lot of people on here i turned to dr. Google and flipped. I saw a bunch of neurologists and the head als specialist at cleveland clinic eric pioro and kept pushing for an emg. Eventually i had a clean emg of my right side and was told to get help for my anxiety. Well since January i havent had insurance i started seeing my calves and arms start to get skinny and ive had more constant twitches in my arms. I saw my pcp today and he agrees he sees the atrophy in my arms, as well as decreased reflexes. All through this process i was told i had a herniated disc pushing on a nerve a little towards the right side in my c6/c7 region. I have noticed that I have been having a lot of tingling in my upper back and shoulders which i know points away from als. I know nobody here is a doctor and i know there are actually people here with this disease. But im legitimately scared. Im 26 years old and have to have another emg done. Any kind words or advice? Heres a picture attached my arm over the past 7 months. I do have a physical job where i deliver beer and stuff every day.

Everything you posted points FAR away from ALS, including the decreased reflexes. If you're getting another EMG, your doctor is looking for something other than ALS.

Thank you kim. I just want to break down but I have to hold it together for my kids. Hopefully whatever it is it can be managed or fixed

Hey, Dan. Normally I would just laugh and move along without commenting, but you've got kids so I'm going to give you the very best I've got.

I understand that those photos show some differences in your muscle/fat distribution, and this concerns you, no doubt. I have some muscles that do that, too. This is not a problem, people are not symmetrical, but most folks never notice it. You seem to be tuned in to your body, so you noticed it. It means nothing.

Your post said nothing about a physical problem, really. But you said a lot about stress and inner fear.

You lost your insurance. Is your job stable? You have young kids. Girls? When my wife died, I tried to figure out how I was going to raise my kids. The boy, no problem. But the more I thought about raising a girl, I panicked. Holy Cow! I have no clue how to raise a girl! That messed me up. Do they have a mom in the picture?

In short, I think you could use some help, but it's not ALS, and probably not anything viral, bacterial, or chronic. I suspect a visit to a shrink would be more valuable than an EMG.

Good luck.

I appreciate your response mike. Idk my pcp said he thinks there is something wrong im not in here freaking out that it could or couldnt be als. Me and my babys mother have kind of been on and off. And yes I have 3 kids 1 boy 2 girls all young ive adapted well to the situstion. Steady job as a truck driver. I am very in tuned with my body
