Default A couple questions, if you have time.

Let me begin by saying; I do appreciate anyone who is taking the time to read this. I also realize you are not doctors but individuals w/ unique experiences through this evil disease. I respect each of you and all you have to say.

1/ When you started having symptomsēconcerns who did you speak with first?

2/ Do you have any underlying health concerns that came before this? Ex: tumors, thyroid, etc...

3/ What symptom would you say made you decide: I need to be seen?

The reason for asking: I have been experiencing a lot of irregular cold/hot. My right foot does not have any feeling but has a good pulse. Left leg has rippling all the time. My hands are losing feeling. My arms, donít reach as high or stretch as far maybe, as they use to. My head leans to the side too. I am exhausted easily; need a short nap after showering. Need to sleep for hours after unloading dishwasher. I shuffle slowly with a cane now. I am at a point where I canít sleep all night my bladder wakes me every 2-3 hrs in spasm (sometimes even more). This has been my life now Iím sure thereís more but thatís my day today.

Hi, please read the pinned post from the top of the Do I Have ALS, Is This ALS? subforum here: READ BEFORE POSTING! Answers to common concerns about possible symptoms!

Your best bet is seeing your family doctor first. They are the ones to start the ball rolling with regards to searching for symptom cause and will direct where you go next based on a clinical exam and answers to questions. With your symptoms, it sounds like there are some pretty obvious issues and will likely point your doctor to the best specialist to refer you pretty quickly. Sensory issues such as numbness point away from ALS.

Best of luck in your search.

Of course, you should see a primary care doc. Ongoing lack of sensation in any body part is a clear mandate to seek care, let alone needing a cane and the bladder issue. But as noted below, this isn't ALS. Find out what it is, and your life can be better.

Best,
Laurie
