First Thread -

https://www.alsforums.com/forum/do-i-have-als-als/40863-twitching-abnormal-emg-terrified.html

I thought I would update in case there was anyone reading my original thread, who was comparing their situation with my own...

I was able to get an appointment with a new neuromuscular specialist on a cancellation. To sum up my appointment:
- All reflexes and strength were normal,
- No signs of atrophy,
- NCS was normal,
- EMG only showed slightly increased polyphasic potentials in all muscles tested (R Deltoid, R Bicep, R ABP-ABD Poll Brev, L and R Vastus Lasteralis, L and R Medial Gastroc, L and R Tib anterior).

He indicated that follow-up is required in 6 months (earlier if more symptoms appear), but ALS is not suspected at this time. The diagnosis was Benign Cramp Fasculation Syndrome (which the first neurologist had indicated was not possible because of the polyphasic potentials that indicated something further was going on).

While I’m struggling with the conflicting information from the 1st neurologist I saw and the 2nd neuromuscular specialist (who I wish was a bit more experienced!), I know it was as good of news as I could have received (short of a clean EMG). I still have major work to do on the anxiety that I have experienced since my 1st abnormal EMG, and I will continue to try therapy as well as a daily exercise regimen (and hopefully some more sleep!) to try and address that issue, or this is going to be a very long 6 months...

I’d like to express my sincere appreciation to everyone who took the time to comment on my previous post, and this post. I will update after my next appointment with the neuromuscular specialist, and hopefully close off this medical nightmare.

Thanks for the update -- sounds like a good plan!

Best,
Laurie
