Im 22 years old and am dealing with every single symptom of ALS... My doctor was very concerned and rushed a Neurologist appt for next week. Im losing my mind I'm so afraid right now. I can't even eat I'm so scared.

Has anybody on here been diagnosed with ALS as young as me

I'm such a mess...

I do not believe we have any 22 yo members. Non Familial ALS at 22 is extremely extremely extremely rare. If you have not yet seen a neurologist or had an EMG or other tests it is way too early to jump to a conclusion. I do not know what " every single symptom of ALS" means. It is a disease with varying presentations and no simple list will capture the whole picture.

I appreciate your doctor is concerned and of course that is frightening. I can tell you non ALS specialist neurologists make premature diagnoses of ALS even after tests that are overturned.

I will further add that if you search this board ( which I do not recommend) you will find a few people of your age claiming diagnosis. Every one I know of that was not the very rare FALS turned out to be a fraud including one who was here a year. I say this so you will take anything you read with a huge grain of salt

Rynzler. First, please remember you are posting on a Forum where members here do have ALS. So, in any following replies please refrain from expressing that you are losing your mind and can't eat. Folks here are living with it.

Next... "Im 22 years old and am dealing with every single symptom of ALS."

Nikki gave you the best reply but... no further "of whatever you expected" posting here will likely follow until you describe your symptoms. Don't quote from Dr. Google... we've read hundreds of them. Your own words without medical terminology.

So, please, share your symptoms that have you near freaking out... that have you thinking you have ALS... without a first Neurological exam, testing, an EMG and many other procedures to determine ALS or any other MND.

Calm down. :)

"Calm down."

That sums it up perfectly, Al.
But, of course, it's impossible to do, Rynzler, isn't it?

Well, I can only add two things that might possibly help.
First, Rynzler, tell us which muscle is paralyzed, limp and useless.
Second, I've heard there are some 22-year-olds with ALS somewhere in the world, but in my 6 years talking with hundreds (thousands?) of people with ALS, I've never actually seen one. I think they are unicorns.

Finally, if you can't calm down, tell your GP medical doctor about that and see if there is some way she can help you with thta.

When you have a complex combination of symptoms it's difficult to diagnose and what can seem serious and scary can turn out to be simple and treatable.

Get your GP to help you to cope with the worry while you are going through tests.

Good luck

Wendy

I met a 23 year old last month with ALS. He has FALS of course. His mother, grandmother, and two of his four uncles have all passed. His grandfather died of something that was never diagnosed and is now believed to have been ALS.

Unless the above describes you I am going to say your odds of having it are extremely low.

Rest, eat, and do what your Doctor says.
