Hello everyone,

First off I want to acknowledge how appreciative I am of any replies this may receive. I have been a viewer of this forum for awhile and see the great lengths you all go to to ease people's minds and/or provide the best information possible. I have finally decided to ask my own questions.

About 9 months ago I noticed stiffness in my left leg and big toe. Since then significant shrinking of that leg (mostly thigh) has occurred as well as progression to the fingers, arm, and shoulder on that same side. I also noticed that side was more "jumpy" when touched compared to the other side.

In February my neurologist acknowledged that there was what appears to be atrophy and ordered an EMG of both the leg and arm on the left side as well as an MRI- all of which were completely normal. I was then told to schedule an appointment in six months.

Since then muscles have further shrank and my knee and ankle begin to ache after just a bit of physical activity. My right side of my body is still unaffected. I have my follow up appointment in mid July with a neuromusclar specialist. Are there specific questions I should ask? I know I have read over and over (and in the stickies) that a clean emg essentially means no ALS- but worry this could all be UMN as I am not sure what else could be causing atrophy and stiffness that would not have shown on an emg/nvc and MRI.

Thank you again for any replies or suggestions. Many Blessings.
