I am waiting to see a neurologist, but have some really strange symptoms. I would lime to know when having fribulations and twitching, specially a twitch the twitch sounds as if it is knocking against a solid object in the body. Or if you put put something down, you can hear a clonck and feel a jerk at the shoulder of the arm.
Sorry it's a strange question.

Can't say I've ever heard of that.

There aren't enough symptoms of upper AND lower motor neuron dysfunction to relate your complaints to ALS.

I would certainly make sure the neurologist you see is a neuromuscular specialist, but doubt that ALS is your issue.

Best,
Laurie

Thanks for all the replies.
I have another question please, when a person has an EMG test, if you feel weakness in the upper back just under shoulder blade , would ALS show up if only tested on right leg and arm and no needles inserted in the actual back?

The neurologist would put needles where ever required for what ever he/she is testing for, there is no test for ALS. ALS is determined by eliminating all other diseases, that's why it takes a few years to be told you have ALS.

When having an EMG, if they saw anything of concern they would be likely to extend the test and sample more muscles. EMG' s can show anomalies in areas where there are no symptoms at all.

Time to diagnosis varies- my husband was Dx'd four months after his first symptom and he is a slow progressor. However, to answer your EMG question yes anEMG can detect chronic and active denervation long before weakness shows up in the area tested.

I have never heard of your symptoms as being ALS related. Best wishes with your appointment I think ALS is unlikely.
