Hi all,

I've found that I'm having a difficult time swallowing, even water, and I feel as though there is food lodged somewhere in my throat all the time. This has been going on for a week. The troubling thing is there's no pain, so a simple sore throat is out, and the fact is, my swallowing reflex feel somehow weak, and not as though my esophagus is obstructed. I've also notice that my jaw feels tired when I chew. should I be worried?

There are many reasons for swallowing difficulty At this point, I would not be worrying about ALS as there are certainly much more likely reasons. See your doctor who presumably will either order a swallow study or refer you to a specialist

thanks Nikki,

I have another question: is it possible to experience in the early stages both symptoms of bulbar onset Als, and also symptoms of als that start from the legs, or does it usually begin in just one area?

Just curious how these symptoms led you to a terminal illness. Have you discussed your concerns with a doctor yet/had any diagnostic testing?
