Hello Members,

First I was introduce myself I am a 29 yr old white male will be 30 in June. I have read the sticky and I am still unsure, I am worried as I recently had a daughter she will be 2 years I May. I stumbled across ALS by Google and after reading the symptoms it like made my body go hot.like it was telling me something.

I have not been able to stop thinking about it since. I went to my doctor and he told me after asking what symptoms I had which I said I have had trouble swallowing once in a while (it is not consistant) and it goes down just feels stuck in my throat sometimes. He said he was pretty sure I did not have ALS he is sending me to a neurologist to look at my carpel tunnel on Monday.

Here is where I am concerned since seeing him on Monday I all these twitches over my body and pulsing that comes and goes in different spots. I have had more trouble swallowing then usual by my arms feel week and I have like a dull pain in my shoulders and my biceps. My legs feel weak on and off all day from my hips down.

I have a sharp pain in my right side by my rib cage down to my waist that comes and goes but my jaw feels like it's locked up and is always clicking (could be from grinding) I do find the last little bit it twitches some and when i go out and its cold it like jitters alot or when i yawn.

Before these came on i thought i was having breathing issues like i cant take that really deep breath all the time i went and had a spyromty done and they said my breathing was not the top for my age but was with in spec ( i used to smoke ) and it might be very mild ashma. Ialso started experiencing throbbing in my lower left abdomen and it was painful at times I chalked it to possible anxiety I have also had a pain under the right side of my tongue that comes and goes but then the right side of my tongue sometimes swells or feels swollen and abit painful then goes away. The last 3 days I have noticed myself mispronuncing words here and there and then correct them right away.

I am having trouble remember simple things too like shop names for example and I have to think abit to get it I also have saliva in my mouth for most part of the evening into the night and then it drys out.

I understand this is hard on the members diagnosed and Thier families I just want to know if I should be concerned or if anxiety is taking me over like I said I have a baby girl and it terrifies me to the point I'm not eating or sleeping

Thanks again to those who answer and I apologise to those I may irritate or have offended I did not mean to

Thanks

CF, I think Texas gives good advice and I'll leave it there. These kinds of symptoms feed on themselves but seeing a neuro should provide you with reassurance. The key is, there's nothing you flat out can't do. Keep up with the carpal tunnel exercises and get help for your anxiety if you need it. Because assuredly, your famliy needs you at your best.

Best,
Laurie

Agreed this does not sound like ALS, but there's an easy way to figure it out. Go see a neurologist. He'll either want you to get some tests done if he thinks it might be ALS, or he'll tell you go home, take some deep breaths and try Prozac! Either way, you know what path you're on. Here were my early symptoms –*I had twitching all over my body, and it never stopped. It didn't come and go, move one place to the other. It was constant and everywhere. I also started have speech problems. That spurred me on to see my primary care doc, who did a whole batch of tests and then sent me to a neurologist. Stress can do a lot of things to you. Zap your memory, cause tiredness, muscle pains, heart palpitations. The works. I certainly hope you don't have ALS, and I wish you good luck with your young daughter. I have a 10 year old son and everyday he's the highlight of my life.

And remember, Google and WebMD is where you can find out you're dying from a cold. :) See experts. Don't trust the internet.

Thank you for the words i will wait too see what the Neuro says, that Doctor google is a evil thing. I guess my concern is my arm feels weak now i could have pulled my biscep tendant the other day which makes you feel weak but i am kind of worried about the twitching you mentioned. i am feeling it in different parts of my body, (example my discep in my right arm will twitch for a while then go away then i will get twitching my my calf and it will go away then later my discep will twitch again) When you said twitching all over on constant does that mean your body is always twitiching or it twitches for a couple minutes then goes away for an hour and comes back.

Thanks again for answering those who did and i admire you all for what you going through it really is hard to come to terms with or even imagine it

My twitching is constant and it's everywhere. It doesn't move around. It can get worse or it can ease up, but it's always there.

Thank you for the response Twitch, I went to my neurologist yesterday and told him my concerns. He said he has never seen anyone my age with ALS so i need to stop worrying. He did some strength test and then did a NVC on my arms and said my nerves are fine i have nothing to worry about and sent me home. I have read here everyone says EMG has to be done he said i do not need one cause if im feeling pains in my body its not ALS and its just anxiety. It has eased my mind somewhat but i feel like he just looked at my age and said there is no way and brushed me off checked for carpool tunnel and moved on. I guess my question is should i be going for a second opinion or take him by his word that the NVC was fine and considering my age of 30 i should move on.

Your neurologist likely did not find anything to warrant an emg. There are some very quick ways to assess strength and movement that can rule out neurological issues.

Your age is definitely a factor in assessment. It's a pretty quick and simple way to reassure someone without going into the many details from your examination that also indicate no cause for worry. If you are curious about the details of neurologist's examination, you can request the report from your referring doctor. On the report will be the various tests the neurologist conducted with an explanation of his findings.

Best wishes

Yeah, don't volunteer too quickly for an EMG. It's a somewhat painful test. Trust the doctor. If he saw something, he would say something.

Well I am going to follow the rules of the forum and move on I thank you for all those that answered my questions. I can't even begin to imagine what you going through and taking the time to answer me is greatly appreciated thank you.

So i was moving on untill last night, i started getting this twitch feeling under my right eye like a very fast vibrate but it is not noticeable when i look in the mirror, but i can feel it, it will go away for abit then come right back to the same spot. I am finding it slower to think and say what im thinking and i am forgetting easy stuff like my phone number for example. My right arm feels heavy i can still lift with it just feels harder and when i walk it does move its natural stride there is a dull pain in my arm pit. I also now have a feeling of like thick spit in my mouth like a coating of it not flem like i need to spit out or anything and my jaw feels like its vibrating and weak.

I am really sorry for hasseling the people on this page as i know you got tough times yourselves. I would like to know if the twitching people talk about would actually be very visable to those around you or is it just more of a internal feeling cause i get this sharp pain in the right underside of my mouth and then this all starts
if i have over stayed my welcome please let me know and i will move on as i said i do not want to be a burden or cause any strain to anyone

Thanks,

It's really important for you to get the specialist report from your gp. There will be a detailed analysis of what the neurologist tested for, which could allay your fears.

There's not much more people here can do to reassure you if you haven't been able to trust what has already been said by your neurologist and the experienced people here. No one here is dismissing your symptoms, only that they feel you do not belong on an ALS forum. There are so many other things that can cause your symptoms- you really should be speaking to a health practitioner to help you figure things out.
