Hi, I have had some weakness and marked atrophy of my left delatoid, biceps, shoulder muscles and triceps for over 3 years. I have never had any pain or altered sensation. This has got worse recently with my left arm shaking making my job difficult. After attending my doctor I was referred on for an MRI scan and nerve conduction tests etc. The MRI showed nothing for the brachial plexus but some foramina stenosis on c4 and c5 with possible nerve compression. The EMG showed fascicullation potentials and large remodelled motor units associated with c5 and c6 on the left side
The doctor suggests I see a spinal surgeon to rule out nerve compression prior to a neurologist opinion.
A few questions 1) I have never had any pain or sensory problems. Is this likely to be a nerve compression?
2) Does a nerve compression cause fascicullation?
3) This arm has been weak for 3 years now. Although getting worse I presume ALS is fairly rapid in progression.
Thanks in advance

It does not sound like ALS and I'm not sure what would you lead you to an ALS forum. Your doctor has suggested a spinal surgeon as the next step.

Weakness and atrophy for over 3 years is much longer than my lived once diagnosed so I think you would have other issues at this point. Follow up as your doc suggested and good luck.

Do you not think you should follow your doctors advice? We here are victims not specialists.
